If you are new to mental health therapy, then welcome! Mental health therapy has been gaining more and more ground over the past few decades, providing benefits, insights, support and positive changes to most of those who have experienced it.
In order for progress to be made, it is important to have a therapist that is caring, understanding and trust worthy to help guide their clients through challenging emotions, memories and interpersonal relationships to come out with a better understanding of themselves and who they want to be moving forward. Truthfulness and genuine care from both sides, generally leads to striving towards and achieving goals after a relationship with safety has been established between client and therapist.
Therapy can be different for each individual. Different topics and areas of life are discussed and session length are two places in which it can vary. Some therapists can assign outside-of-session work to ensure that progress is made quickly and maintained over time. Depending on the area of focus or treatment goals, a therapist's approach can also vary, as long as the therapist is competent in using the modality and tools associated with it. A client has the final say in their voluntary commitment to therapy, meaning that a client is encouraged to provide honest and open feedback, as well as can withdraw for therapy at any time.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have regarding therapy and I will be sure to respond to them so everyone can get the benefit of knowing.
